Cleaning Condensate Lines
Any air conditioning in phoenix at some piont you will have this problem.
Cleaning an air conditioning condensate line on an annual basis is essential, unless you want your air conditioning condensate line to become clogged condensate lines. As a rule, water from air conditioning unit drip pans will always be present as long as you are running your air conditioner. As you begin to use the air conditioner less, sludge and slime will begin to build up inside of your condensate line, and eventually the line will become clogged. These type of clogged condensate lines can cause your air conditioner to trigger the float switch, which will do one of two things: 1. It will absolutely kill the power that gets to the air handler, resulting in an air conditioner shut down, or 2. Your house will be flooded. If you want to overpay a third party to keep from getting your hands dirty from a few minutes of (admittedly slimy) work, there are people who will happily oblige you. However, just know that you are paying more for the idea of staying away from gross sludge than you are for any sort of technical expertise, because cleaning a condensate line is an easy do it yourself fix, with no expensive equipment needed. As a matter of fact, you can clean a condensate line with no more than a wet / dry vacuum. The steps: 1. Once you have your wet / dry vac on hand, go outside and find out where the condensate pipe is located. 2. Turn on your wet / dry vac and simply suck the sludge out of the clogged condensate pipe. 3. Do not worry about this problem for another year! There are other ways that one may clean out a condensate pipe, and there are different types of vacuums that may be used. However, the use of the wet / dry vac seems to be the most effective, and the most viable. There are rumors that grapefruit juice can clean out the slime in a condensate pipe. It certainly would not hurt to try. If it does not work, simply use the wet / dry vac to suck out the slime AND the grapefruit juice. Any air conditioning in phoenix will get clogged a little maintance now, will save you problems later.
